Tactile Paver

PBM Tactile Pavers are precast concrete ground-surface indicators that support safe and accessible movement for visually impaired pedestrians. The series comprises two functional profiles : Dot (warning) and Line (guidance) – each available in 300×300mm and 395×395mm formats, three thickness options (15mm, 30mm, 40mm), and three colours: Grey, Black, and high-contrast Yellow.

Tactile pavers are typically specified at kerb ramps, platform edges, building entrances, transit interchanges, and along defined pedestrian routes through public, commercial, and institutional buildings. The 15mm thickness supports surface-mount retrofit onto existing paving; 30mm and 40mm are intended for integral installation alongside new precast paving systems.

Applications

FAQ —

Dot pavers carry an array of truncated domes and serve a warning function – used at locations where visually impaired pedestrians need to be alerted to a change in environment (kerb edges, top of stairs, platform edges). Line pavers carry parallel raised bars and serve a guidance function – used to indicate a safe directional path for pedestrians to follow.

Yellow is the standard colour for tactile pavers in most accessibility codes because it provides the strongest visual contrast against typical grey or black paving surfaces, which assists pedestrians with partial vision. Grey and Black are available where visual contrast is achieved through alternative means or where a less prominent installation is preferred.

15mm is intended for surface-mount retrofit installations, where tactile pavers are bonded to an existing paved surface using adhesive. 30mm and 40mm are intended for integral installation as part of a new paving system, bedded into sand or mortar alongside surrounding paving units. Match the tactile paver thickness to the depth of the surrounding paving.
